How Many Simultaneous Lines do I Need?
SIP lines are designed to support a single call at a time, whether it is incoming or outgoing. Therefore, the number of SIP lines necessary is contingent upon the scale of your business and your telephony usage patterns.
For smaller enterprises, it is often easier to assess the volume of simultaneous calls—both incoming and those on hold—providing valuable insights for determining the appropriate number of SIP trunks needed.
Based on the average usage of business phone system users internationally, the 3:1 rule was created to assist in the decision making of how many SIP lines a business needs.
This basically recommends that for large businesses (ranging from heavy to low phone usage), there should be 3 employees for every 1 phone line, or in this case, simultaneous lines.
While this isn’t a one-size-fits-all rule, it can be used as a great starting point for a discussion between your SIP provider and your IT department.
During the checkout process, please select either Port Phone Number (CAT-A) or (CAT-C) option if you intend to transfer an existing number.
If you are uncertain about which option to choose, we recommend selecting CAT-A. Our team will reach out to you if CAT-C is applicable.
If no selection is made, a new number will be assigned to you.
